Folkstone has a rich history of American football and now the game is once more coming back to Swale with the East Kent mavericks facing the Cambridgeshire cats this Sunday at Folkestone Rugby Club

The sport has not been played in this part of Kent since the Folkestone wolverines destroyed local rival’s the Medway Mustangs 136-12 in 1988 with the Mavericks hoping to replicate that form against division 1 East leaders this SundayThe Mavericks adult and youth teams have had problems securing a home field for the last 2 years, playing home games in different areas of Canterbury and also at Faversham rugby club. 

This Sunday they will be joined by their Cheerleading squad. This Sundays game is set to be a thriller with the mavericks  All star running back Gary Welch and Quarter Back Adam Lillis leading the Mavericks against the Cambridgeshire cats.   The Cambridgeshire Cats are based near a U.S. airbase so always recruit a lot of semi pro players - They currently lead the division having defeated the Mavericks 32-12 three weeks ago in Cambridge, fans can expect to see an exciting aerial display from their passing all American offence.

The Mavericks senior team kick off at 12pm with the youth team doing battle hosting the London renegades at 2:30pm.
